I love this and it's so well written. After having lived in multiple Asian countries for over 10 years though, I have to say "Black-led projects translate just fine" was not my experience at all. Rush Hour sold due to Chan. Only 1/3 of Will Smith films do anything overseas, and he's probably the #2 Black actor in the world (after Denzel). And Black Panther was selling a costumed, established character. Sadly, while other countries might not push back as loudly as the US alt-right, the general disinterest in Black culture and entertainment is far more pervasive. The covert racism is still like in the 1950s almost everywhere I've been. I hate to say it, but I feel like bottom-line driven studio execs are not the barrier to Black-led entertainment. They'll invest in whatever makes money.
